[2] State the purpose served by the terminals of a three pin plug. [2] Question:4. (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) Calorimeter are made of copper, Explain the reason. Explain the statement: The specific latent heat of vaporization of water is 2260 x 103 J/kg . What are the types of emission? What are cathode rays? Why are they called cathode rays ? How does the position of an element change in the periodic table when it emits out an alpha particle? SECTION-II (Answer any four questions from this section) [2] [2] [2] [2] [2] [40 Marks] Question:5. (a) A bullet of mass 50g is moving with a velocity of 500 m/s. It penetrates 10 cm into a target and comes to rest. (i) Calculate the KE possessed by the bullet. (ii) The average retarding force offered by the target. [4] Page 1 of 3 (b) (c) (i) What is the work done by the gravitational force on the moon that revolves round the earth? (ii) A coolie, with a load of 30 kg on his head, walks on the platform. If he walks a distance of 60 m, what is the work done by him? (iii) A bullet fired against a window glass pane makes a hole in it without any crack, while a stone striking the same glass pane smashes it; explain with reason. [3] (i) In the lever(mass-less) shown in figure what is: (1) the clockwise moment about the fulcrum F,(2)the anticlockwise moment about F and (3) the relation between clockwise and anticlockwise moment? Assume that the fulcrum is frictionless. (ii) How do you define mechanical advantage of a machine? Calculate the mechanical advantage of the lever shown in figure. [3] Question:6. (a) (b) (c) (i) Explain briefly what causes the twinkling of stars at night. (ii)A glass slab is placed over a page on which the word VIBGYOR is printed with each letter in its corresponding colour.(I) Will the image of all the letter be in the same place? (II) If not, state which letter will be raised to the maximum. Give a reason for your answer. [4] The adjacent diagram shows two right angled isosceles prisms A and B. Complete the diagram to show the path of rays P and Q emerging out of the prism B. What principles have you used to complete the diagram? [3] Diagram shows an object AB placed on the principal axis of a convex lens placed in air. F1 and F2 are the two foci of the lens. Copy the diagram: (i) Draw a ray of light starting form B and passing through O. Show the same ray after refraction by lens. (ii) Draw another ray from B which passes through F2 After refraction by the lens. (iii) Locate the final image. [3] Question:7. (a) (b) (c) (i) Define the term resistivity and state its SI unit.
