i apparently had used the wrong method earlier

the correct method is :

find out the slope of A and (-2,p)

we can find the slope of AB = -2

and as point (-2,p) lies on it , it will have the same slope

slope = p +3 /-2-7

p+ 3 = 18

p = 15

to verify u can do the same thing with B 

p - 9 / -2 -1 = -2

p-9 = 6

p = 15

sorry for the confusion earlier
