SRI SRI ACADEMY CLASS X (BIOLOGY) PRE BOARD EXAMINATION SESSION 2015-2016 TIME: - 2 HRS GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS MAX MARKS:- 80 Answer to this paper must be written on the paper provided separately. You will not be allowed to write during first 15 minutes. This time is to be spent in reading the question paper. The time given at the head of this paper is the time allowed for writing answers. Attempt all questions from Section I. Answer any four questions from Section II. The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ ]. SECTION I (40 Marks) Attempt all questions from this section. Question 1. (a) Name the following: (i) Phase of interphase where DNA duplication takes place. (ii) Phenotypic and Genotypic ratio (Monohybrid Cross) (iii) Light and dark reaction (Site of occurrence) (iv) Gestation and Parturition (Definition) (v) Cranial and Spinal nerves (Type / Nature) (d) State whether the following statement are true or false. If False rewrite the correct form of the statement by changing either the first or last word only :[5] (i) Muslin cloth is a freely permeable membrane. (ii) Dominant gene expresses only in homozygous condition. (iii) Testes descend in inguinal canal prior to birth. (iv) Organ of Corti is called the organ of balance. In each set a term is odd one and cannot be grouped in the same category to which the other three belong. (a) Answer the following questions:(i) Name two Y linked traits in humans. [1] (ii) Name the nitrogenous bases found in DNA and RNA exclusively. [1] (iii) A normal visioned woman marries a normal visioned man. They have a colour blind son. How can it be explained? Use Punnet square to substantiate your answer. [3] (b) Define the following terms: (i) Polymerisation (ii) Phenotype (iii) Eutrophication (iv) Plasmolysis (v) Mutation. Question 3. (a) Study the diagram given below and answer the question that follows: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) [5] [5] Identify the above stage. Give a reason to support your answer. Name the parts labelled 1, 2, 3 and 4. What is the function of part labelled 3. Name the stage that comes just after this stage in the diagram. Draw a neat labelled diagram of that stage. (b) A heterozygous tall pea plant is crossed with a homozygous dwarf pea plant. With the help of a Punnett square, show the parents and their offsprings Phenotypes and Genotypes [3] (c) A haemophilic man marries a carrier woman. (iii) Hanging by rope around neck causes instantaneous death. (iv) Veins are provided with valves. (v) Chances of pregnancy to be occurred on the 14th day of the menstrual cycle. Question 5. (a) Answer the questions that follows : [5] (i) Mention two adaptations found in xerophytes to reduce loss of water due to transpiration. (ii) Mention any two differences between Endocrine glands and Exocrine glands. (iii) Expand NADP and BCG. (iv) What is the marriageable age by law for boys and girls in India? (v) Give one example of : 1) Main pollutant responsible for Green House Effect. 2) An antitranspirant which acts as fungicide. (b) Name the duct or passages that leads from: [3] (1) Ovary to Uterus. (2) Pinna to eardrum. (3) Urinary bladder to Outside. (4) Uterus to Outside. (5) Middle ear to Pharynx. (6) Epididymis to Ejaculatory duct. (c) Name the fluid for the following cases: [2] (1) Protects and nourishes the brain. (2) Filters out into the Bowman s capsule under pressure. (3) Protects the developing embryo.
