SECTION - I Q1) a) b) In a catchment area of 100 km2, the average annual precipitation at five rain gauge stations is as under Station 1 2 3 4 5 Precipitation (mm) 750 1000 900 650 500 Find number of additional rain gauge stations if permissible error is 10%. Also, find rain gauge density. [8] What is Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP)? Explain how it is estimated? [8] OR Q2) a) b) Explain with graph the Intensity - Duration - Frequency relationship. [8] Describe Radar measurement of rainfall. Also, state names of any four methods of measurement of rainfall. [8] Q3) a) Differentiate between evaporation and evapotranspiration. Also, state Dalton s equation & explain different terms of it. [8] The average precipitation during a storm over a catchment area of 10 km2 is as follows. i) 40 mm/hr for 1 hour. ii) 60 mm/hr for 1 hour. iii) 30 mm/hr for 1 hour. If the area of hydrograph plotted with scale 1 cm = 1 hr on x axis and 1 cm = 10 m3/sec on y axis observed as 30 cm2, find index of infiltration. [8] b) P.T.O. OR Q4) a) b) Q5) a) b) Explain the current meter method of determining the discharge flowing through open channel. Also, state the equation of current meter. [8] 3 The annual yield in mm from a catchment for 20 years is 240, 350, 680, 400, 290, 160, 110, 105, 300, 600, 800, 540, 280, 130, 320, 810, 740, 220, 190 and 480. Find i) 80% dependable yield. ii) % dependibility of the yield of 540 mm3. Also, plot the flow duration curve. [8] Define unit hydrograph. State any four assumptions in deriving unit hydrograph. Also, explain base flow separation with help of sketch. Find maximum flood discharge by using i) Dicken s formula (C = 22) ii) Inglis formula. iii) Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur formula (C = 50) & iv) Rational formula (C = 0.35). [8] Explain concept of synthetic hydrograph and state step by step procedure of Snyder s study. [10] SECTION - II Q7) a) Find duration in days between two waterings if i) Field capacity of soil = 30%. ii) Apparent density of soil = 1.5. iii) Permanent willting point = 15%. iv) Effect depth of root zone = 75 cm. v) Daily consumptive use of water for the crop = 10 mm.
