DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWTOWN SESSION 2025-26 PRE BOARD EXAMINATION CLASS: XII SUBJECT: ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE [SET A] FULL MARKS: 70 TIME: 3 HOURS Instructions to Candidates You are allowed additional 15 minutes for only reading the question paper. You must NOT start writing during the reading time. This question paper has five printed pages. It is divided into three sections and has 12 questions in all. All questions are compulsory. Answer all questions. Section A has fourteen subparts which are very short answer questions. Each question carries 1 mark. While attempting Multiple Choice Questions in Section A, you are required to write only ONE option as the answer. Section B has seven questions which are short answer questions. Each question carries 4 marks. Section C has four questions which are long answer questions. Each question carries 7 marks. Internal choices have been provided in two questions in Section B and in one question in Section C. The intended marks for questions are given in brackets [ ]. OR (ii) Compare and contrast the strengths of Gross National Product (GNP) in relation to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), emphasizing how each metric offers unique insights into a nation's economic activity. Question 3 Wildlife biologists are planning a conservation program for sea turtles along the eastern coast of India. They observed that thousands of hatchlings emerge each season, but only a few survive to adulthood. Most die due to predators, human interference, and habitat loss. To design an effective protection plan, the biologists decided to study the survivorship pattern of the species. Identify the survivorship curve shown by the sea turtles. [3] SECTION C-28 MARKS Question 9 Read the following passage and answer the questions given below: (i) Is the diagram justified? Discuss. (ii) How is the above mentioned forestry different from Joint Forest Management? Question10 (i) Identify major sources of vehicular pollution and suggest measures for its control in India. (ii) State the objectives of smart growth. OR (i) The Government of India has launched several programs such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Jal Jeevan Mission, and National Solar Mission to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. Define SDG. Which SDGs are addressed by these initiatives? A/4 [3] [4] [4] [3] [4] (ii) Explain any three physical indicators of soil. [3] Question 11 (i) A recent report highlights that the fertility rate in India is slowly declining, especially [5] in urban areas. Experts attribute this to increased awareness of family planning, higher levels of female education, and economic considerations.Government campaigns promoting maternal and child health have also played a role in reducing unnecessary births. Question 12 Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: Many developing countries receive foreign aid to fund development projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. However, a significant portion of this aid comes with conditions: recipient countries must purchase goods or hire services from the donor nation. While this ensures quality and technical support, it often increases project costs and limits the recipient country s freedom to choose locally suitable solutions.
