Bassanio describes Portia counterfeit which he finds in an excellent way. He first praises the artist who painted it by calling him a demi-god because he had made a picture so close to being alive. He then asks if the counterfeit's eyes were moving in reality or if they were fixed onto his eyeballs and seemed to move. By saying so he shows how attractive the picture's eyes were. He then calls the painter a spider for having woven a web which were the golden locks of Portia's hair which trapped men's hearts  faster than gnats would get trapped in a spiderweb
