Name the law used to arrive at the answer in part (a). SECTION-B (40 Marks) (attempt any four questions) Question 4 a. Why is it easier to open a door by applying the force at the free end of it ? [2] b. An alpha particle captures two electrons so it changes into the gas: [2] i. Name the gas that formed. ii. Why is alpha particle not used in radio therapy ? c. A virtual, diminished image is formed when an object is placed [3] between the optical centre and the principal focus of a lens. (i) Name the type of lens which forms the above image. (ii) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image with the above stated characteristics. d. Orange light of wavelength 6600 travelling in air gets refracted in water.If the refractive index of water is 4/3,find : (i) the frequency of light in air,(ii) the speed of light in water ,and(iii) the wavelength of light in water. [3] Question 5 a. Two fuse wires are rated 5A and 20 A.Which of the two is [2] i. Thicker ii. longer b. Two waves of the same pitch have amplitudes in the ratio 1 : 3. What will be the ratio of their: [2] (i) intensities and (ii) frequencies? c. An object AB is placed between O and F1 on the principal axis of converging lens as shown in the diagram. Copy the diagram and by using three standard rays starting from point A, obtain an image of the object AB. [3] d. A uniform metre rule of mass of 100g is balanced on a fulcrum at mark 40 cm by suspending an unknown mass m at the mark 20 cm. [3] (i) Find the value of m (ii) To which side the rule tilt if the mass m is moved to the mark 10 cm ? (iii) How can it balanced by another mass of 50g. Question 6 a. The diagram shows two coils of several turns of copper wire near a magnet i. In which direction the needle of galvanometer deflects. ii. Name the law used to arrive at the conclusion in part (i) b. How does the angle of minimum devaition of prism varies with increase in [2] (i) Wavelength of incident light (ii) Refracting angle of the prism c. Name the waves : [3] (i) used in sterelising purposes (ii) used for taking photographs in dark (iii)absorbed by the ozone layer. d. 45 g of water at 50 C in a beaker is cooled at 18 C is added to it. The contents are stirred till a final constant temperatureis reached. Calculate the final temperature. The specific heat capacity of water is 4.2 J/gK and of copper is 0.39J/g. [3] Question 7 a. A lens forms the image of an object placed at a distance of 45 cm from it on a screen placed at a distance 90 cm on other side of it. i. Name the lens ii. Find the focal length of the lens iii. Magnification of image b. The adjacent diagram shows three different modes of vibrations P, Q and R of the same string. (i) Which vibrations will produce a louder sound and why ? (ii) The sound of which string will have maximum shrillness ? (iii) State the ratio of wavelengths of P and R. c. A man raises a box of mass 50 kg to a height of 2m in 20 s,while another man raises the same box to the same height in 50 s. [4] (i) Compare the work done and power developed by them (ii) Calculate the power developed by each man .(g=10m/s2) Question 8 a. If the net resistance of the circuit is 5 ,then calculate the value of R1 [2] b. (i) A person is tuning his radio set to a particular station. What is the person trying to do to tune it ? [1] (ii) Name the phenomenon involved, in tuning the radio set. [1] c. A pendulum has a frequency of 5 vibrations per second .An [3] observer starts the pendulum and fires a gun simultaneously.He hears echo from the cliff after 8 vibrations of the pendulum.If the velocity of soumd in air is 340m/s,find the distance between the cliff and the observer. d. (i) Water in lakes do not freeze at once in cold countries. Give a reason in support of yopur answer . (ii) What is the principle of calorimetry ? (iii)Name the law on which principle is based. [3] Question 9 a. When a potential difference of 2 volt is applied across the ends of a wire of 5m length,a current of 1 A flows through it .Calculate : [2] i. The resistance per unit length of the wire. ii. The resistance across the ends of the wire if it is doubled on itself b. If a man playing a flute closes the holes of a flute near its mouth,then [2] i. Will the pitch of the note increase or decrease ? ii. Give a reason for your answer. c. The diagram below shows the magnetic needle kept below the conductor AB in the North-South direction (i) In which direction will the needle deflect when the key is closed? (ii) Why is the deflection produced? (iii) What will be the change in the deflection if the magnetic needle is taken just above the conductor AB? d. (i) Name the radio isotope which is used in determining the age of excavated material. (ii)Arrange the , and radiations in increasing order of ionising power. (iii) A nucleus of mass number 238 and atomic number 92 is radioactive when it emits two particles and is transformed into a nucleus of B.What is the composition of B ?
