Find the moment of force of 20N about an axis of rotation at a distance 0.5m from the force. ii. Find the area of a body which experiences a pressure of 50000Pa by a thrust of 100N. Question 6 a) Define work. When does a force perform work? State two conditions when no work is done. b) State the energy changes in the following while in use: i. An electric bulb ii. An electric motor iii. An electric oven c) Solve the following: i. A force of 30N acts on a body and moves it through a distance of 5m in the direction of force. Calculate the work done by the force. ii. A body of mass 60kg is moving with a speed 50m/s. Find its kinetic energy. Question 7 a) i. ii. Define refraction of light. The diagram shows a ray of light AO falling on a rectangular glass slab PQRS. Complete the diagram till the ray of light emerges out of the slab. Label on the diagram, the incident ray, the refracted ray and the emergent ray. b) Define spectrum. Name the various colours present in the spectrum of sunlight. c) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image of an object placed at centre of curvature of a concave mirror. State the nature, size and position of the image. 2 Question 8 a) State three factors on which depend the linear expansion of a metal rod on heating. b) Which of the following will expand more, when heated to the same temperature: i. Amplitude ii. Frequency iii. Longitudinal wave b) State the factors that determine: i. Pitch of a note ii. Loudness of sound heard iii. Quality of note c) Solve the following: i. The time interval between seeing the flash of lightning and crack of thunder is 7s. If the velocity of sound is 340 m/s, find the height of cloud. ii. Two waves have frequencies 256 Hz and 512 Hz, but same amplitude. Compare their loudness and pitch. Question 10 a) A glass rod rubbed with silk. State the kind of charges on each of them. Explain it on the basis of electron movement. b) How will you use a gold leaf electroscope to find out whether a body is charged or uncharged? Explain it on the basis of electron movement. c) In a premise, 5 bulbs each of 100W, 2 fans each of 60W, 2 ACs each of 1.5kW are used for 5 hours per day. Find: i. Total power consumed per day ii. Total power consumed in 30 days iii. Total electrical energy consumed in 30 days iv. Cost of electricity at the rate of Rs 6.25 per unit. 3
