Each question should be answered in about thirty (30) words and each carries five (5) marks. By circumstances and inclination the problems of defence were a closed book to the country s leaders. India had achieved freedom through a policy of non-violence. India loved peace and had no aggressive designs. The world had emerged from the holocaust of the second world war, whose termination was heralded by the devastating explosion of the nuclear bomb. The very power of destruction contained in the new device seemed to make future wars unprofitable and meaningless.
