Banking operations were hit hard on Tuesday as merely one million workers went on a one day nation wide strike to against reforms they fear will result in job losses. The strike led by officers and clerks at the state run banks that dominate the banking industry, meant most banks were closed affecting trading volumes in bonds and the rupee. But about 50 thousand workers at foreign and new private banks went to work as normal. The response is good and all offices across India are closed said the president of one bank union that participated in the strike.
