Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow based on your understanding of the passage : IMR and U5MR are sensitive indicators of a country s development and reflect the quality of life. The IMR and U5MR in rural areas of our country is substantially more than in urban areas, where most of the health facilities are available. A large number of biological, medical, social and economic factors influence these two rates. The high rate also points to the downward spiral of interplay between malnutrition and infections. There has been a decline in the level of IMR from 129 to 80, during 1971 to 1990, though it is still alarmingly high. There are large differences in the IMR and U5MR amongst the states. Major states having high child mortality rates are Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Orissa. On the other hand, State of Kerala has achieved a very low IMR comparable to industrialized countries. A high female literacy, better medical, educational, transportation and communication facilities in Kerala have helped achieve low IMR. 48. The factors contributing to low IMR are : (i) (ii) better hygiene and sanitation (iii) development of communication (iv) age of mother (A) 49. high female literacy (iv) and (ii) (i) and (ii) (C) (ii) and (iii) (D) (i) and (iii) (C) (ii) and (iv) (D) (ii) and (iii) Indicators for Country s Development are : (i) IMR (ii) Literacy (iii) Medical facilities (iv) U5MR (A) 50.
