Each question should be answered in about thirty (30) words and each carries five (5) marks. (5x5=25 marks) ( 5) (30) ( 5) (5x5=25 ) Read the following paragraph carefully and answer the questions at the end of the paragraph in 30 words each : Demographic migration and immigration were a way of life in the periods of history and pre-history. Carrying language, myths, religions and various components of culture was an essential part of this way of life. It was not necessarily related to warfare. The heavy impact of political history on our minds leads many of us to believe today that international and inter epochal exchange of ideas was primarily due to war, conquest, subjugation and imposition. This is only partly true. For the main truth in this area, we have to look into the records of contacts and transmissions between cultures through intermediaries like ambassadors, travellers, traders, sailors, priests and above all, ceaseless and silent human migration and immigration due to natural calamities, quest for hospitable climes and fertile lands, specially river basins. When we look back into the history of India and its relations with the neighbouring countries of Asia, we are obliged to recall the land-routes and maritime-routes of India with countries like Central Asia, Far East, West Asia and South-east Asia. Baghdad, Tashkent and Delhi formed a golden triangle of culture and transmission of material, intellectual and spiritual goods........ The relations between China and India were always marked by mutuality. Besides the well known Fa-Hsien and Hsuang-Tsang, many other learned monks and travellers contributed to India-China relations. The literature and the sources on the subject are vast. There is a definite scholarly opinion that China and India are not only two neighbouring civilizations due to geographical compulsion but also, perhaps more so, due to endless cultural contacts, exchange and solicited enrichment.
