(5 5 = 25 marks) : (5) (30) (5) (5 5 = 25 ) Read the paragraph carefully and answer the questions given below : Non-experimental designs known as correlational methods, are research designs in which neither the random assignment of subjects to condition nor the use of a control group are employed. The goal is to know the potential relationship among variables or set of variables. But correlational research designs do not allow the researcher to say anything about the causal relationship between the variables. It simply tells us the co-variation between the variables and not whether one variable causes the other. For example, it is difficult to ascertain whether intelligence causes the development of social skills, or reverse is true i.e. social skills may cause intelligence, or whether the two constructs are caused by some other common factor. A correlation between two variables could be caused by the presence of a third variable, which is responsible for the relationship between two variables.
