Force 1. Momentum : The force which a body possesses, due to the combined effect of mass and velocity. 2. Dyne-second : When a force of 1 dyne acts on a body for 1 s, the momentum is said to be 1 dyne-second. or When a body of mass 1 g, moves with a velocity of 1 cm s 1, the momentum is said to be 1 dyne-second. 3. Newton-second (Ns) : When a force of 1 N, acts on a body for 1 s, the momentum is said to be 1 newton-second. or When a body of mass 1 kg, moves with a velocity of 1 ms 1, the momentum is said to be 1 newton-second. 4. Newton s second law of motion : The rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the impressed force, and takes the direction in which the force acts. 5. Force : The product of mass and acceleration is called force. 6. Dyne : It is the force which produces an acceleration of 1 cms 2, in a body of mass 1 g. It is an absolute unit of force in the CGS system. 7. Newton : It is the force which produces an acceleration of 1 ms 2, in a body of mass 1 kg. It is an absolute unit of force in the SI system.
