Term II Examination 2020-21 PHYSICS Grade: 10 Date: 24th Nov '20 Maximum Marks:80 Maximum Time: 2 hr. Instructions Answers to this paper need to be written in paper provided separately. You will not be allowed to write for first 15 minutes. This time should be used as reading time. The time provided in the question paper is the time allotted for writing answers. Attempt All questions from section A and any FOUR questions from section B. The intended marks of the questions or parts of the question is provided in brackets. ___________________________________________________________________________ Section A (40 marks) All Questions need to be answered from Section A (40 Marks) Question 1 a)Write the name of physical quantity which has unit Nm . Is this a scalar or vector quantity? [2] b)A ball is placed on a compressed spring. When the spring is released the ball jumps off the spring. [2] (i)What is the energy possessed by the compressed spring? (ii)Why does the ball jumps off the spring? Page 1 of 6 c)Name the factor which decides the center of gravity of rigid bodies? Where does the center of gravity lie in a triangular lamina? [2] d)Can a simple machine be a force multiplier and speed multiplier simultaneously? Give reason for your answer. [2] Question 2 a)List two differences between heat capacity and specific heat capacity(definition/unit) [2] b)Copy and Complete the given diagram with suitable rays to show the image formation by the lens. [2] c)Write the essential conditions for total internal reflection of light to occur. [2] d)Mention any two application of infrared radiations. [2] e)What is the cause of rattling sound in moving vehicles? How can it be stopped? [2] Question 3 a)V-I graph for a metallic wire at two different temperature T1 and T2 is as shown in the following figure. Which of the two temperature is higher? Give reason. [2] c)Farmers fill their fields with water to protect the crops from frost. Give reason. [2] d)What is the maximum resistance that can be made with five 0.2 resistances? Write necessary calculation for the same. [2] e)Two objects A and B of masses 5 g and 35 g have same momenta. Find the ratio of their kinetic energies. [2] Question 4 a)Complete the reactions given below (i) 6C 14 (ii) 92 X238 14 7N + ----+ 2He4 -----Y [2] b)The specific latent heat of ice is 336000 J/kg. What do you understand by the statement? [2] c). A child has drawn electrical circuit to study Ohm s law as shown in the figure below. Redraw the circuit with any corrections required. [2] d).Arjun fires a gun at a target 167 m away from him. If the speed of sound is taken as 334 m/s, find the time taken by Arjun to hear an echo. [2] e).State the energy changes in the following. (i)A truck climbing up a hill (ii) loudspeaker [2] Section B (40 marks) (Answer any FOUR questions) Question 5 a).(i) A uniform meter scale is balanced at 40 cm, when weights 25 gf and 10gf are suspended at 5 cm and 75 cm respectively. Calculate the weight of the meter scale. Page 3 of 6 (ii) State the principle used to calculate the weight of the meter scale in the above case. [4] b).(i)State work-energy theorem. (ii) A wasp of mass 20 g flies vertically up with a velocity 50 cm/s. What is the power generated in its wings?(g=10m/s2) [3] c).(i) In which wire should fuse be connected in an electrical connection? What should be the nature of fuse wire? (ii) How is the commercial unit of electricity related to S.I unit of energy? [3] Question 6 a)The figure below shows three cylindrical copper conductors with their face areas and length. Compare the resistance and resistivity of three conductors. [4] b)Explain earthing in electrical connections. Why is the pin for earthing longer and thicker among the three wires used in socket? [3] c)An electric iron is rated 220 V, 1 kW. Under normal working conditions find: (i) the resistance of heating element (ii) the current that will flow through the element (iii) the heat that will be produced in 5 minutes. [3] Question 7 a)The diagram given below shows two forces 5 N and 3 N acting at A and B of a rod pivoted at point O, such that OA= 2 m and OB = 4 m. Page 4 of 6 Calculate (i) Moment of the force F1 about O. (ii) Moment of the force F 2 about O. (iii) Total Moment of the two forces about O. (iv) In which direction does the rod turn finally. [4] b) With the help of a neat diagram represent a block and tackle arrangement of 3 pulleys. [3] c) A man raises a box of mass 60 kg to a height of 2 m in 30 s, while another man raises the same box to the same height in 60 s. (i)Compare the work done and power developed by them (ii) State one condition for the work done to be zero. [3] Question 8 a)An object is placed at a distance of 10 cm in front of a concave lens of focal length 10 cm. Find (i) (ii) the position of image and the size of the image in relation to the object. [4] b)Copy the isosceles right-angled prism given below and complete the path of the ray. [3] c)A boy stands 68 m in front of a tall wall and claps. The boy continues to clap every time an echo is heard. Another boy finds that the time taken between the first and the fifty-first clap is 20 s. Calculate the speed of sound. [3] Question 9 a) 45 g of water at 500C in a beaker is cooled when 50 g of copper at 18 0C is added to it. The contents are stirred till a final temperature is reached. Calculate the final temperature. specific heat capacity of copper is 0.39 J/g K and that of water is 4.2 J/g K. State the assumptions used. [4] b) Represent graphically free vibrations and damped vibrations of a body. Page 5 of 6 [3] c)The diagram shown below shows a pulley system. Observe the diagram and answer the following questions. (i)Name the pulleys A and B (ii) write the relation connecting effort(E) and load(W) (iii)What is the mechanical advantage of the system [3] Question 10 a) (i)Compare the penetration and ionization power of alpha and beta particles. (ii)How many alpha and beta particles are emitted in the given transmutation?
