GEMS MODERN ACADEMY GEOGRAPHY MOCK EXAM H.C.G. Paper 2 Grade: 10 Date: 05.01.15 Time: 2 hours Max Marks: 80 (Two hours) Answers to this Paper must be written on the paper provided separately. You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes. This time is to be spent in reading the question paper. The time given at the head of this Paper is the time allowed for writing the answers. __________________________________________________________________ Attempt seven questions in all. Part I is compulsory. All questions from Part I are to be attempted. A total of five questions are to be attempted from Part II. The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ ] __________________________________________________________________ To be supplied with this Paper: Survey of India Map Sheet No. 45D/7 and 20 cm of twine. Note:i. In all Map Work, by a wise use of arrows to indicate positions of countries, cities and other insertions that you make, you will be able to avoid overcrowding parts of the map. ii. The extract of Survey of India Map Sheet No. 45D/7 must not be taken out of the examination hall. It must be handed over to the Supervising Examiner on the completion of the Paper. iii. The Map given at the end of this question paper must be fastened with your answer booklet. iv. All sub-sections of each question must be answered in the correct order. v. All working including rough work should be done on the same answer sheet as the rest of the answer. ______________________________________________________________________________ This paper consists of 5 printed pages and 1 outline map of India 1 PART I (30 Marks) Attempt all questions from this Part Question 1 Study the extract of the Survey of India Map sheet No. 45D/7 (Eastings 77 to 87 and Northings 82 to 92) and answer the following questions:(a) Give a six figure grid reference for the prominent surveyed tree in settlement Atal (on the bank of the Sipu River). [1] (b) Calculate the distance in kilometres As the crow flies between Sodapur (8089) and Meda (7988). [1] (c) Calculate the distance in kilometres along the cart track between Dantiwada (8582) and Chodungri (8286). [1] (d) Mention any two features seen in the map extract which indicate that the region has seasonal rainfall. [1] (e) Name the two different modes of transport used by people travelling between Nandotra(8282) and Chodungri(8286). [2] (f) Mention two occupations other than agriculture, of the people living In Atal. [2] (g) Comment on the difference in the types of natural vegetation seen on the left bank and right bank of the Sipu River. [2] (i) Give the meaning of the broken black lines in grid square 8288. Give one reason why this feature exists. [2] (j) Will there be intervisibility between Jegol(8590) and Velavas(8689)? Give a reason for your answer. [2] (k) What is meant by: i. 179 in 8187 ii. 3r in grid square 7991. iii. Black dotted line in the northwest corner of the map. [3] (l) Comment on the general slope of the land. Give reasons for your answer. [3] Question 2 On the outline map of India provided:(a) Mark and name River Betwa. (b) Mark and label the Malabar Coast. (c) Mark the direction of wind which gives rain fall over Cherrapunji. (d) Shade an area where Red soil is found extensively. (e) Mark with a dotted line and name the Tropic of Cancer. (f) Name and mark the Commercial capital of India. (g) Shade and name the Gulf of Mannar. (h) Mark and label the Satpura range. (i) Shade and mark the Himalayas.
