Solution:- we know, the mechanical advantage of a system of pulley is equal to the number of movable pulley Therefore . = 2 where n, is the number of movable pulley . = 2 = 23 =8 233 b. 90 + 24 So Atomic Number of Radium = 233-4=289 Mass Number of Radium. = 90-2. =88 229 So, 88 229 233 C. 88 2.4 + 90 (ii) BOY A. BOY B 2m ?? Given A boy of mass= 25 kg/25 kgf and Effort Arm=2 m. Another boy of mass = 30 kg/kgf. To find Load Arm of the boy with weight 30 kg. Solution According to the Principal of Lever, Force applied by Boy A * Effort Arm= Force applied by Boy B * Load Arm 25kgf * 2m = 30kgf * Load Arm 2 25 30 = 1.67 m = Load Arm Therefore, The boy of weight 30 kg should sit 1.67 m away from the middle of the see-saw to balance it. (iii) Solid Cone Hollow Cone We know , Centre of gravity of We know , Centre of gravity of Solid Cone. Hollow Cone h/4 of its base area. => h/3 of its base area So, Therefore, Ratio of their centre of gravity is = = = 3 4 4 3 So Ratio of their centre of gravity is 4:3 (iv) (V) (a) According to the principal of conservation of energy, assuming did negligible air friction the kinetic energy of a body increases with a decrease in potential energy. (b) If there is only an interchange between potential energy and kinetic energy, the total mechanical energy (i.e., the sum of kinetic energy K and potential energy U) remains constant . K + U = constant in the absence of all kinds of frictional forces. (VI) (a) The frequency of the vibration of a sound produced by a guitar is greater than that produced by a car horn. Since the pitch of a sound is proportional to its frequency, the guitar has a higher pitch than a car horn. (b) The two practical applications are: Reflection of sound is used to measure the speed and distance of underwater objects. This method is called SONAR. Working of a stethoscope the sound of patient s heartbeat reaches the doctor s ear through multiple reflections of sound. (VII) Given- = = = 10 = 4 = 2.5 = ? ? , = = 10 = = 2.5 10 1 = 10 1 = 10 10 = 1 = 4 3.(i) (a) Or (b) The lens which can produce a real and inverted image of an object is a Convex lens. (ii) (a) The effective resistance of the circuit => now, . = 2 + 3 = 2.0 + 4.0 = 6.0 1 = 6.0 = 1 1 1 = + 1 1 1 1 = + 6 6 1 2 = 6 = 3 (b) = 6 = 3 6 3 = 2 = (iii) (a) If we hold the current carrying conductor in our right hand such that the thumb points in the direction of flow of current, then the fingers encircle the wire in the direction of the magnetic field lines. This rule is known as Right hand thumb rule. (b)Fleming s left hand rule: Stretch the forefinger, central finger and the thumb of your left hand mutually perpendicular to each other . If the forefinger indicates the direction of magnetic field and the central finger indicates the direction of current, then the thumb will indicate the direction of motion of conductor (i.e., force on conductor). (iv) (a) In cold countries water in lakes and ponds does not freeze all at once: The reason is that the specific latent heat of fusion of ice is sufficiently high (= 336 J g ). The water in lakes and ponds will have to liberate a large quantity of heat to the surroundings before freezing. The layer of ice formed over the water surface, being a poor conductor of heat, also prevents the loss of heat from the water of the lake, hence the water does not freeze all at once. This property is very important for the survival of aquatic life. (b) The boiling point of a liquid increases by addition of impurities to it. If common salt is added to water, it boils at a temperature higher than 100 C. Hence we add salt in the water while cooking pulses, vegetables, etc., so that the water provides sufficient heat energy to its contents before boiling starts and now the cooking is at a higher temperature and thus becomes easier and faster. (V) (a) They are used in photography at night and also in mist and fog because they are not much scattered, so they can penetrate appreciably through it. (b) Infrared lamps are used in dark rooms for among developing photographs as they provide some visibility without affecting the photographic film. Section B 4.(I)(a) The part of spectrum beyond the red extreme and the violent extreme is called The invisible spectrum. Beyond visible-red end of electromagnetic spectrum, infra-red rays exist. Infra-red rays have wavelength greater than and frequency less than that of red light. Use: Infra-red rays are very penetrating; hence infrared cameras are used during foggy season and during war time by flying plane high enough to avoid attack by anti-aircraft guns. (b)The ultraviolet Ray exist before visible valid end of the electromagnetic spectrum. The Sun is a source of Ultraviolet radiation. (ii) (a) (b) The name of the prism used here is a binocular. (iii) (a) (b) For total internal reflection to take place : (i) light must travel from a denser medium to a rarer medium and (ii) the angle of incidence inside the denser medium must be greater than the critical angle for the pair of media. (c) 5.(I)(a) the deviation of the incident light ray. produced by a lens on refraction through it is a measure of its power. 1 (b) = ( ) (c) The unit of power is Dioptre. (ii)(a) In the position of minimum deviation, both the angle of incidence and the angle of emergence are equal, i.e. Angle of incidence. (b) The completed diagram is shown in Fig. 4.60. Since the refracted ray DE is normal to the surface AB of the prism (i.e. < = 0 ), so the incident ray at the point D should also be normal to the surface AB so tha < = 0 . At the point E, the angle of incidence for the ray DE is 150 -90 60 which is equal to the critical angle, so the ray DE is refracted at 90 , i.e., it is refracted along EC. (iii)(a) I. II. LL lens is a concave lens III. The image formed will be virtual, erect and diminished. 6. (I) . a) b) ii) (iii) a) Here we have, Volume of water = 50 L = 50 x 10-3 m3 = 1000 3 We know that, Mass of water = Volume of water x density of water = 50 10 3 1000 = 50 Work done in raising 50kg water to a height of 25m against the force of gravity is: = = Power P = work done/ time taken = 50 x 10 x 25 J/ 5s = 2500 W. b) I. If Its mass is double-The kinetic energy becomes two times II. If it s velocity is tripled. The kinetic energy becomes nine times 7. I. 1 2 a) Equivalent resistance of the circuit is = 1 + 2 + . = 4 + 20 + 1 = 25 ohm According to the formula = 1.5 = 25 1.5 = 25 0.06 = Thus the current drawn is of 0.06 A. b) Potential difference across the 4 resistor V=IR = . = 0.06 4 = 0.24 Thus , The potential difference across the 4 resistor is 0.24 V. c) ( ) = = 0.06 1 = 0.06 ii. 238 a) Number of electron in the neutral atom of uranium = 92 = 92 238 b) Number of proton and neutron in the neutral atom of uranium= 92 = 238 92 = 146 92 c) Isotopes are members of a family of an element that all have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. iii. a) A parallel arrangement will be a better way to connect lights and other electrical appliances in domestic wiring because a parallel arrangement has a low resistance, Also in case of any short circuiting in one appliance, the other electrical appliances remain unaffected. b) The electrician had placed all lamps in series . In series arrangement if any lamp get fused or have any problem then rest of the lamps of any electronic appliances connected with it in that arrangement would not work
