INDIAN MUSIC (HINDUSTANI) PAPER 2 (PRACTICAL) Maximum Marks: 30 Time allowed: About 20 minutes per candidate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ ]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 1 [7] Presentation of a Khayal in a Raga of the candidate s choice with Alap, Bolalap, Sargam and Taans of the Raga, if the candidate is offering Vocal Music. OR Presentation of a Gat in a Raga of the candidate s choice with Todas and Jhala, if the candidate is offering Instrumental music. OR Presentation of a Tabla solo including Peshkar, Kayada, Rela, Tukada, with Tihai, in any Taal of the candidate s choice, if the candidate is offering Tabla. Question 2 [4] Rendering of another Khyal / Dhrupad or Gat in a Raga of the examiner s choice with some improvisation, if the candidate is offering Vocal or Instrumental Music. OR Rendering of another Taal of the examiner s choice with improvisation asked by the examiner. Question 3 [3] Singing or playing of ten alankars. OR Producing of Tabla Bol in two different Taals of the examiner s choice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ This Paper consists of 2 printed pages. 1220-872B Copyright reserved. Turn over Question 4 [3] Identification by the candidate, of three note patterns and three Ragas, as sung or played by the examiner (for Vocal/Instrumental). OR Accompaniment on the Tabla by the candidate for three compositions sung or played by the examiner in different Taals followed by recitation of the same Taals indicating Taali and Khali. Question 5 [3] Singing or playing of self-made alaps by quick changeover from one Raga to another. OR Playing dugun and chougun Layakaris of Taal, as asked by the examiner. In addition to the above, candidates are to be evaluated as follows: (a) General impression of total performance (accuracy of Shruti and Laya, confidence, posture, tonal quality and expression to be assessed by the Visiting Practical Examiner). [5] (b) Assessment of work done by the candidate during the year (to be assessed by the teacher).
