Some tips:
essay: Please DONT beat around the bush by giving half page backgrounds and redundant details! Now, they have started giving clear and to-the point topics... Write what you are asked to. You will surely reach 20-23 and if your writing is exceptional - 24 but again STICK to the topic. Don;t deviate a bit. For instance the topic is : Describe what happened when your broke down while coming back from a trip. Please for the sake of God do not write about the trip- how enjoyable it was or anything like that. Focus on the topic and write! If you are too interested in giving backgrounds, then don;t waste more than three lines in doing the same. Even your introduction should be in accord with the topic. Next, while writing essays always: "SHOW your reader what you SEE, DO NOT TELL. Don;t say it was an amazing day. Make your reader realise through your description that the day was, indeed, amazing!"
For comprehension: Write the answers in your own words. If you don't then you would lose 0.75 to 1 mark depending on your examiner
The meaning should have the same tense as that of the word in the passage.
The answers should be brief.
Do not give your opinion ever.
For summary,
read the topic twice
Step2: identify the part/paragraph in the passage that the question wants you to summarize
Step3; Make a list of six points. Trust me: there are exactly six-eight points. Identify them and weave them into a summary. Remember: Exactly SIX-Eight.
For letter; keep in mind informal is more scoring (YES it is!). You wouldn't achieve much by getting the extra half mark in Formal Letter for format. Informal lets you relate yourself with the topic. Would you like to talk to an alien editor or your friend? Therefore, informal is far more scoring than formal. You might have to write less in formal but you will lose more marks in the same because formal expects a really good command over the language and a great vocabulary/
