INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES The total mark for this paper is 60. Quality of written communication will be assessed in all questions. Figures in brackets printed down the right-hand side of pages indicate the marks awarded to each question or part question. 6203 Section A Answer one question from this section. Either 1 Diet is one of the factors which increases the risk of cancer development. (a) Consider the role of fruit and vegetables in the prevention of cancer. [10] (b) Explain why a high energy intake may be a contributing factor to cancer. [10] or 2 (a) Identify the aim of the Sexual Health Promotion Strategy (2008 2013) and outline the targets that will be used to measure the success of this strategy. [10] (b) Explain some of the reasons why sexual health in Northern Ireland is poor. 6203 2 [10] Section B Answer any two questions from this section. 3 Cardiovascular disease is a complex condition determined by the interaction of a wide range of factors including: raised blood lipids; homocysteine; sodium intake; and alcohol consumption. Present the current theories which link each of the factors above to cardiovascular disease. [20] 4 Explain the term glycemic index and examine its relevance for individuals with diabetes. [20] 5 The aims of the Promoting Mental Health Strategy (2003 2008) are to prevent, reduce and raise awareness of mental and emotional health problems.
