A2W2S7R 3723.05 Answer all seven questions. 1 In college, student data is entered into an examination system. (a) Explain what is meant by a data processing system in this case. (b) Explain how the examination system could use data for decision making at operational level. [3] (c) Describe two other levels at which the system could be used for decision making within the college. 2 [3] [4] A supermarket uses a computerized stock control system. The ICT manager produces a number of different reports. (a) Describe two reasons why the supermarket still makes a manual check of stock. [4] (b) Explain how the ICT manager could produce a new report showing items which require reordering. [4] (c) A report showing annual sales figures could be presented to the directors as a graph, or in the form of a table. Evaluate these two methods of presenting the annual sales figures. 3 [6] Company employees can access data using an intranet or the Internet. (a) Explain why the company would use the Internet as well as an intranet. [4] The company has a number of measures in place to protect its data physically, and from unauthorised access. All employees carry identity smart cards. (b) Describe two ways in which the smart cards could be used to ensure the physical security of the company s data. [4] (c) Apart from smart cards, describe two ways in which the company could protect its data from unauthorised access. [4] (d) The company has plans for disaster recovery.
