The owner Henry employs four fulltime staff and six part-time staff. He carries an extensive product range which includes painting equipment, nails of all sorts, fencing, garden accessories and other hardware products. The business has enjoyed mixed success but has recently noticed an increase in trade since it started to stock Jungle Gym equipment for children a range of climbing frames, forts, castles and swings. Henry buys the equipment flat packed from a supplier but has discovered a market for assembling it since many parents are working and do not have the time to do it themselves. He has also decided to stock gas barbecues and is offering his customers the option of having the barbecue delivered, fully assembled. This too is proving a popular service. Henry has designed a leaflet to inform customers of his service: Now supplying Prices from 190 We are offering the service of both our Jungle Gym equipment and barbecues being delivered and fully assembled at your home (see in store for details) Fig. G121F7/G121H7 2373.01 5 [Turn over Due to the demand for these services Henry is considering employing two extra staff one part-time and one full-time. This is a new trendy hair dressing salon that was set up three years ago by two hairdressers, Colleen and Patricia. They have a regular customer base and have built a good reputation for a friendly reliable service. All customers receive tea or coffee on arrival and are given a 10 minute head massage before their hair is styled. Prices are slightly higher than those of the salon s competitors but Colleen and Patricia feel this is justified by the added service. Prices for Ahead! Prices for Ahead Ahead! Prices from: Cut and Blow Dry 18.50 Tinting 25.00 Semi-permanent colouring 25.00 Permanent colouring 35.00 Highlighting 29.50 Lowlighting 25.00 Children s cut 10.00 Fig. Due to the success of the business they have extended their opening hours to include three late nights and now employ six other hairdressers to work with them. They are currently thinking of extending their services to include a beauty salon. Patricia thinks it would be a good idea to sell their current premises and move to bigger premises on the edge of town. Colleen is worried about losing customers and wants to extend the premises at the rear and has been told it will cost 25,000 to do so. She thinks it will take another 5000 to train staff and stock the salon. Currently the owners are deciding which is the best course of action and what is the best way to finance the expansion.
