KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA SANGATHAN, LUCKNOW REGION SECOND PRE-BOARD EXAMINATION 2020-21 Class: XII BIOLOGY (044) Theory Time: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 70 General Instructions:(i) All questions are compulsory. (ii) The question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D. There are 33 questions in the question paper. (iii) Section A has 14 questions of 1 mark each and 02 case-based questions of 4 Marks each. Section B has 9 questions of 2 marks each. Section C has 5 questions of 3 marks each and Section D has 3 questions of 5 marks each. (iv) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions. (v) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labelled diagrams should be drawn. SECTION A (Q1 to Q14 =1 MARK EACH) 1. Read the following and answer any four questions from 16 (i) to 16 (v) given below: (1x4marks) CORONA VIRUSES Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel corona virus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from Civet Cats to humans and MERS-CoV from Dromedary Camels to humans. Several known Coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, and cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs.
