Define 1 Ampere. ii. State the working principle of a fuse. iii. A fuse is connected in _______________ across an electrical circuit. Question 2. i. Why should switches always be connected with the live wire? ii. The resistance of an electrical appliance varies when it is in use from the state of not being used. State an appropriate reason for the observation made above. iii. 1 KWh = ____________________ J. [2] [2] [1] [2] [2] [1] Question 3. i. Define 1 Watt. ii. Differentiate between the EMF and Terminal voltage of a cell. (Any 2 points). iii. State the limitation of Ohm s law. [2] [2]. [1] Question 4. i. A switch is always connected in _________________ (Series/ Parallel) with the device to be operated. ii. Explain the reason why the lights of a vehicle go dim when the engine is started. iii. Define Electromotive force. [1] [2] [2] P.T.O SECTION- B (20 marks) Answer any four questions Question 5. i. A music system draws a current of 400 mA when connected to a 12 V battery. a. What is the resistance of the music system? b. The music system is left playing for several hours and finally the battery voltage drops and the music system stops playing when the current drops to 320 mA. At what battery voltage does the music system stop playing? [3] ii. Why is the Earth pin made thicker and longer than the other two pins of a three pin plug? [2] Question 6. i. Two bulbs are marked with 100W, 220 V and 60 W, 110 V. Calculate the ratios of their resistances. [3] ii. An electric kettle is rated 2.5 kW, 250 V. Find the cost of running the kettle for two hours at 60 paise per unit. [2] Question 7. i. A metal wire of resistance 6 is stretched so that the length is increased to twice of original length. Calculate its new resistance. [2] ii. In the diagram given below A, B and C are three ammeters each of negligible resistance. The ammeter B reads 0.5 A. Calculate: [3] a. The reading of the ammeters A and C. b. The total resistance of the circuit, and c. The e.m.f of the cell. Question 8. i. The electrical appliances in our house are always connected in parallel and not in series. Give two reasons for connecting them on parallel. [2] ii. Three heaters each rated 250 W, 100 V are connected in parallel to a 100 V supply. Calculate: a. The total current takem from the supply. b. The resistance of each heater. c. The energy supplied in kWh to the three heaters in 5 hours. [3] Question 9. i. An electric bulb is rated 100 W, 250 V . What information does this convey? ii.
