JAM 2016 JOINT ADMISSION TEST FOR M.Sc. 2016 National Level Test for Admission to Integrated Ph.D. Degree programmes at IISc Bangalore (IISc) and M.Sc. (Two Years), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, M.Sc.-M.Tech., M.Sc.M.S.(Research)/Ph.D. Dual Degree and other Post-Bachelor s Degree Programmes at IITs [Bhubaneswar (IITBBS), Bombay (IITB), Delhi (IITD), Gandhinagar (IITGN), Guwahati (IITG), Hyderabad (IITH), Indore (IITI), Jodhpur (IITJ), Kanpur (IITK), Kharagpur (IITKgp), Madras (IITM), Roorkee (IITR), Ropar (IITRPR)] for the Session 2016-2017 ABOUT JAM The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) conduct the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) for admission to Integrated Ph.D. Degree Programmes at IISc and M.Sc. (Two Years), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, M.Sc.-M.Tech., M.Sc.-M.S.(Research)/ Ph.D. Dual Degree and other Post-Bachelor Degree Programmes at various IITs. The main objective of JAM is to consolidate Science as a career option for bright students across the country. It is expected that the research infrastructure, the inter-disciplinary interaction and the vibrant academic environment of IISc Bangalore and IITs will motivate these students to pursue R&D careers in frontier areas of basic sciences as well as inter-disciplinary areas of science and technology. JAM 2016 is open to all nationals. But, foreign nationals will be required to satisfy the rules and regulations of the admitting Institute(s) pertaining to foreign students for admission. The JAM score may also be used by other institutions for admission to their programmes. For JAM 2016, IIT Madras is the Organizing Institute. STRUCTURE AND MODE OF JAM 2016 JAM 2016 examination will be held on February 07, 2016 (Sunday). JAM 2016 will have seven Test Papers each of three hours duration. For all the papers, JAM 2016 examination will be conducted in ONLINE mode ONLY. A candidate can appear in either one Test Paper or two Test Papers by paying an additional fee for the second test paper. Candidates opting to appear in two Test Papers must check from the Test Schedule that these Test Papers are not scheduled in the same session. MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION(S) FOR ADMISSION Please refer to the JAM 2016 website: http://jam.iitm.ac.in/jam2016 and/or the JAM websites of the respective institutes. Organizing Institute Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai PATTERN OF TEST PAPERS All the seven Test Papers of JAM 2016 will be of fully objective type, with three different patterns of questions, namely (i) multiple choice questions (MCQ), (ii) multiple select questions (MSQ), and (iii) numerical answer type (NAT) questions. JAM 2016 EXAMINATION TEST SCHEDULE SESSION & TIME Session I February 07, 2016 For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks) the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting institute(s) NOTE: Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with the required eligibility, as specified by the admitting institute, should be submitted by September 30, 2016. Reservation policy is as per the Government of India norms. Mathematics (MA) and Physics (PH) Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG) and 02:00 pm to 05:00 pm Mathematical Statistics (MS) INFORMATION BROCHURE & APPLICTION PROCEDURE The information brochure and all other information related to JAM 2016 will be updated time to time on the website: http://jam.iitm.ac.in/jam2016. A candidate can register and apply ONLINE only for JAM 2016 from September 02, 2015 to October 14, 2015. The application fee can be paid either online or through e-challan (additional transaction charges may apply). In case a candidate chooses to pay through e-challan, then the payment should be made in cash at any branch of the bank mentioned in the e-challan latest by October 10, 2015 (Saturday). The application fee is non-refundable. The candidates are advised to visit the JAM 2016 website regularly for any updates. The application fee details are given below: Group/ Category ADMISSION PROCEDURE Admission to various academic programmes at IISc and IITs for the session 2016-2017 shall be made on the basis of an all India merit list of JAM 2016. Candidates who qualify in any test paper of JAM 2016 shall be eligible to apply for admission to all the academic programmes corresponding to that test paper, provided they also satisfy the minimum educational qualifications and the eligibility requirements as specified by the Institute(s) in which the admission is sought. Admission shall be given in the order of merit depending on the number of seats available at the admitting institute(s). After the declaration of JAM 2016 results, qualified candidates should apply on the prescribed admission form to the Organizing Institute (IIT Madras) specifying their preferences for the programmes for which the admission is sought.
